Education & Special Programs

One of the most beneficial features of the Nevada University and Community College system is its visionary approach to developing specific employee training program for individual industries and companies. These alliances have even created training for a "partner" company on the specific job tasks needed for a specialized process.

The Reno/Sparks/Tahoe area continues to plan for the future. With investments in a technology center, math & science center, the new Redfield education & technology campus and state programs such as the Millennium Scholarship, the area is clearly focused on enhancing the education system

Lyon County School District

Regional Technical Institute
This center provides alternative classes to high school students including electronics, computer aided design, business systems, advanced child development, printing and graphics, precision machining, horticulture and landscaping, building trades, fashion merchandising and culinary arts.

Western Nevada Community College
The Western Nevada Community College provides training to new employees from private industries in the Fernely, Fallon, Dayton, and Carson City area. Courses include accelerated welding, blueprint reading, computer applications, electronics, forklift training, geographic information systems, management/supervisory skills, OSHA construction standards, plumbing, electrical or carpentry training, and ultrasonic welding.

University of Nevada, Reno
There are a wide variety of programs offered by each of the 10 fully accredited colleges and schools including 70 bachelor's degrees, 70 master's programs, 30 doctoral specialties, 3 EdD's, and 1 MD. This private liberal arts college is located in Incline Village, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe. Nevada Prepaid Tuition Program

Millennium Scholarship Plan
In 1999, Governor Kenny Guinn’s Millennium Scholarship initiative was enacted into law by the Nevada Legislature; the legislation created the Millennium Scholarship trust fund to be administered by the State Treasurer. The most common path to the scholarship will be the successful completion of a rigorous program of study at a Nevada high school.
